During a team event today at Google, we did an activity called the “wheel of life.”
It explores several core areas of your life:
- Health
- Family and friends
- Romance
- Personal development
- Fun and recreation
- Contributions to society
- Business and career
You then score yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 based on how well you feel those areas are going right now.
Scores varied across the team, but the common themes were people wanted to invest more in their health, charity, and having more fun.

What I enjoyed about this exercise is the reminder of the different areas that make us who we are.
Personally, I’m a fan of balance. Ideally, I’m healthy, have strong relationships, feel like I’m learning and growing, have financial security, and have lots of fun.
Obviously, it isn’t possible to have balance all the time. “Life” happens. And some people prefer to lean into certain areas more because it’s important to their identity, values, and priorities.
But I think it’s worth keeping these other areas in mind along the way.
Are you working long hours to get ahead in your career? Cool – but don’t forget about your relationships.
Do you have a ripped six pack and meal prep like a pro? Awesome – but make sure to have some fun and make time for hobbies.
This isn’t about judgement. Perspectives differ. “Life” happens.
But it’s good to remember that, even if you aren’t investing in them, those areas of life are there, and they matter to your health.
Hope this helps inspire some reflection.
And if you need help improving your health while also balancing these other areas, my coaching program would be a good fit for you.
Love you lots.
