The Flow of Life

One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned from operating in high-achievement environments for over a decade is, “Not everyday has to be your best day.”

Contrary to what we may believe, what we’ve been taught, or how our environments nudge us, we don’t have to be everything to everyone.

You don’t even have to be everything to YOURSELF right now.

If you’re finding life hard, that’s OK.

If basic self care is hard, that’s OK.

If going for a walk feels hard, that’s OK.

If talking to people is hard, that’s OK.

Your best is your best at that given time… Not the best ever that you’re capable of or the expectations of your best from others. Your capacities and circumstances are ever-changing.

In his new book, Master of Change, author and coach Brad Stulberg offers a mindset to help with this:

“The goal is to open to the flow of life and accept change.”

In doing so, we accept where we are and give our best – whatever that looks like.

And if we actively resist change and try to go 100%, no matter what?

That leads to a host of mental and physical issues, ranging from increases in the stress hormone, cortisol, to muscle loss and decreased recovery.

So today, I’m challenging you to ask yourself:

“Am I swimming against the current of change? Or am I going with the flow?”
