Gradually, then Suddenly

How did you go bankrupt?
Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.

― Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises

Your health is an investment.

When you eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep, you’re investing in your future.

These investments add up gradually, compounding with time.

The gains you reap are health, capability, and autonomy.

Investing in your health affords you the freedom to live how you’d like.

The opposite is also true.

If you don’t invest in your health, this, too, adds up gradually, compounding with time.

Then, suddenly, your health, capability, and autonomy are taken from you.

You fall and aren’t able to get up.

You can’t climb a flight of stairs.

You can’t reach for a mug in the cupboard.

You don’t have the strength to hold your children.

Your freedom is taken from you.

Gradually, then suddenly.

Your health is an investment.

Manage it wisely.
